TPACK
Technological
Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework which explains the different
types of knowledge that a teacher must possess to be as effective as they can. The
idea it defends is that to be able to exercise their profession adequately, any
teacher must develop these three kinds of knowledge, and the different
combinations between the three.
It´s
objective is to improve the level of education, by taking into account the
different aspects of education, covering the content, the resources and the way
the pedagogical practice takes place.
Technological knowledge.
Technology
knowledge is the understanding of the way that different technologies, tools
and resources are used in a specific field. For a mathematics teacher for example, it would consist
of understanding all of the different technological elements that apply to
mathematics, ranging from something simple like a calculator to an extremely
advanced computer to solve the most complicated of problems.
This involves
not only understanding technology, but being able to apply in a productive
manner, knowing whether technology may be useful or an obstacle and being
capable to adapt to the changes in technology.
Content knowledge.
Content
knowledge refers to the teachers´ knowledge about the actual subject matter in
question, which means how well the teacher
knows the content they are trying to pass on to the student. This knowledge includes established practices
and approaches towards developing the knowledge of concepts or theories
mentioned earlier.
We should
mention that the content may vary between schools and the different levels of
education, meaning that teachers should be prepared as well as possible.
Pedagogical knowledge.
Pedagogical knowledge refers to the teachers´
knowledge of the act of teaching itself, so the different processes and methods
to transmit content knowledge in an effective manner to the students. To do
this they must understand how students learn, how to manage classrooms, or how
to plan lessons.
Apart from
the content, teachers must transmit values, ethics and overall educational
purposes to their students.
Context
One of the
most important factors of TPACK is the context. The environment surrounding the
teacher has an impact on how they do their job. Some teachers may have limited
resources, or have to adapt to the culture, so basically they need to take into
account the conditions they are working in to work with the most efficiency
possible.
The context
also conditions the teacher, as the training varies between social contexts, so
we could say that it affects every element in TPACK in one way or another.

Have you follow any sources for building these definitions? al the words are yours?... I miss some references...
ResponderEliminarGood job, but make the literature dialogue with you next time.
