Week 10. Translator.
Hi guys, I'm Leona and this week I'm The Prickles' translator.
In this task we have learned about leadership and it's styles.
The concepts that I have chosen are the following: leader, authoritarian leadership, participative leadership, transactional leadership and transformational leadership.
A leader is someone who takes charge of a group in
a situation, a person who is followed by other people. A leader has to be in
control, a person who is superior to the rest (in some cases). A leader always
has a plan, they know what they want to do and what they have to do to achieve
it. A leader is like the coach of a football team, he/she leads the group to
victory (if the outcome is the expected). To be a leader it is important to be
wise, motivational, inspiring, convincing, organized, optimistic, enthusiastic,
strong minded, respectful and so on. There are different types of leadership
styles, some important ones are the following: authoritarian, participative,
transactional and transformational.
Authoritarian leadership is based on control. There
is no freedom of speech in this case, what the leader says is what has to be
done. There is no negotiating. The workers will be rewarded or punished
depending on if they get the job done properly or not.
Participative leadership is where the decisions are
made by all the members, not just the boss. When these decisions are made by a
whole group and not just one person, the bond between everyone increases and
becomes stronger. In this style it is common to find a lot of communication and
mutual respect.
With a transactional leadership, once the
workers have said they are going to do a certain job, they must see it through.
This style is a mix between the employee’s needs and the organization’s needs.
Transactional leadership is normally used for short-term plans.
I hope you know understand what a leader is and some leadership styles. Have a great weekend and see you next week for our last ever task!
